Speech and Language

Communication is vital for connecting with others and exchanging information. Speech therapy can help rebuild your speech and language abilities so you can chat with a group of friends, read a good book, follow the plot of a movie, or send a text or email.

Speech involves the motor movements that enable us to produce sounds and say words.

Language is the process of using, organizing and connecting words to communicate your thoughts and ideas. Reading, writing, talking, and listening can all be impacted as a result of a stroke, brain injury, or other neurologic condition.

We specialize in treating the following communication impairments:

  • Aphasia

  • Apraxia of speech

  • Dysarthria

You may benefit from evaluation and treatment if your speech and language have been affected in any of the following ways:

  • Difficulty clearly pronouncing sounds and words (slurred speech)

  • Trouble finding the words you want to say

  • Difficulty understanding what others are saying

  • Difficulty producing sounds in the right order

  • Changes to the speed or volume of your speech

  • Difficulty with reading, writing, or spelling
